Special Postman Pat Pin Badges On Sale Across UK Post Offices Now

Classic Media, a global media company with a portfolio of some of the world’s leading family entertainment brands, today announced that the UK’s favourite postal delivery worker, Postman Pat®, has helped to raise over £250,000 for children’s charity Barnardos’ ‘Believe in Children’ Appeal through the sale of special collectable pin badges that are available in over 12,000 Post Offices across the UK.

The special Postman Pat pin badges are still available from Post Office branches across the country for a suggested donation of £1 with all proceeds going direct to Barnardo’s to support the organisation’s vital work. Badge designs feature Pat with his trusty sidekick Jess the Cat®, delivering a parcel, in his van, on his motorbike and even in his new Special Delivery Service helicopter!

The ‘Believe in Children’ Appeal 2010 campaign was launched in September. The sale of the specially designed Postman Pat badges forms part of the Royal Mail Group’s support for the Appeal, which aims to help raise funds for Barnardo’s work with some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the UK.

“We’re incredibly delighted that Postman Pat has helped raise such a significant amount for such a worthwhile cause,” commented Anja Hendriks, Senior Director, Marketing at Classic Media. “It’s fantastic to be able to use Pat’s popularity in such a positive way. We hope sales of the pin badges continue to soar in the lead-up to Christmas, aiding Barnardo’s continuing efforts to deliver support to disadvantaged children across the UK.”

Royal Mail Group employees and customers took part in a range of fundraising events across the whole country throughout September, including the Post Office 1000 Challenge spearheaded by double-amputee and ultra-distance athlete Chris Moon who ran an incredible 1,000 miles from Edinburgh to London, supported by Pat at both the start and finish line. Other initiatives included special collection boxes, bucket shaking and mobile phone top-ups at Post Office branches.

Director of Fundraising for Barnardo’s, Liz Cox, said: “I am delighted that these special Postman Pat badges have helped Barnardo’s to raise significant funds as part of our first ‘Believe in Children’ Appeal. As the major supported charity of Royal Mail Group, Postman Pat is a great fit for Barnardo’s and this partnership. The funds raised will help to support some of our most urgent work with vulnerable children, young people and families in local communities across the whole country.”
